When your 2022 Nissan Frontier displays the P0305 code, the engine control module has detected repeated misfires in cylinder 5. The completely redesigned 2022 Frontier uses the 3.8L V6 engine producing 310 horsepower. With six cylinders numbered 1-6, P0305 is a legitimate diagnostic code.
2022 Frontier - Complete Redesign
The 2022 Frontier is a third-generation complete redesign featuring new styling, updated interior, and the same 3.8L V6 and 9-speed automatic introduced in 2020. No four-cylinder option is available, so all Frontiers have a cylinder 5.
Cylinder 5 Location
On the 3.8L V6, cylinder 5 is on the rear bank toward the firewall. The longitudinal engine mounting positions this cylinder against the firewall, requiring work from above or removal of components for access.
Common Causes
As a newer vehicle, manufacturing defects or loose connections from assembly are possible causes. Spark plug issues are less likely unless there's a defect. Ignition coil failure can occur. First-year redesign software may have calibration updates available. Check for TSBs addressing known issues.
Diagnostic Process
Read all codes and freeze frame data. Check for Nissan TSBs for 2022 Frontier. Verify all ignition system connections are secure. Inspect spark plug and ignition coil at cylinder 5. Test fuel injector operation. This newer vehicle should still be under warranty if a component has failed.
