When your 2022 Kia Carnival displays the P0305 code, the engine control module has detected repeated misfires in cylinder 5. The 2022 Carnival uses the 3.5L Lambda III V6 producing 290 horsepower. With six cylinders numbered 1-6, P0305 is a legitimate diagnostic code.
2022 Carnival Powertrain
The Carnival (which replaced the Sedona) uses Kia's 3.5L Lambda III direct-injection V6 paired with an 8-speed automatic. This is the only engine available on all Carnival trims.
Cylinder 5 Location
On Kia's 3.5L V6, cylinder 5 is located on the rear bank (toward the firewall) in the center position. The transverse engine mounting in this minivan makes access somewhat challenging.
Common Causes
Spark plug wear can occur, especially approaching service intervals. Direct injection engines can accumulate carbon on intake valves over time. Ignition coil failure at cylinder 5 is possible. Fuel injector problems may cause lean misfires. Vacuum leaks around the intake affect cylinder performance.
Diagnostic Process
Read all codes and freeze frame data. Access cylinder 5's spark plug and inspect. Test the ignition coil. Check for vacuum leaks. On higher-mileage vehicles, consider intake valve carbon inspection.
