P0175 on the 2022 Cadillac XT6: Investigating the Rich Condition
The 2022 Cadillac XT6 is a three-row luxury crossover available with the 2.0L LSY turbo four-cylinder (237 hp) or the 3.6L LGX V6 (310 hp). When P0175 appears, the ECM has found persistent over-fueling on bank 2. On the V6, that's the rear cylinder bank of the transverse-mounted engine. On the turbo four, the secondary fuel control loop detects the excess fuel. Both engines can trigger this code, though through different mechanisms.
Symptoms in Your XT6
- Check engine light on the XT6's instrument display
- Fuel economy below rated figures
- Dark exhaust smoke during acceleration
- Rough idle in the luxury-quiet cabin
- Fuel smell from the exhaust
- Sluggish or inconsistent power delivery
Root Causes
1. Dirty MAF Sensor
Both engines rely on hot-wire MAF sensors that are sensitive to contamination. The XT6's intake routes through the front fascia area where road debris accumulates. The turbo 2.0L is especially sensitive because MAF errors multiply through boost calculations. Cleaning costs $10–$15; GM OEM MAF is $105–$235.
2. Upstream O2 Sensor Issue (Bank 2)
The wideband oxygen sensor on bank 2 provides critical fuel mixture feedback. A lazy, contaminated, or failing sensor causes the ECM to over-fuel. With the 2022 XT6 potentially having 20,000–60,000 miles, sensor degradation is possible. Replacement costs $135–$300 at a Cadillac dealer.
3. Boost System Leak or Malfunction (2.0L)
The LSY turbo's charge pipes, intercooler connections, and electronically controlled wastegate are potential sources of boost management issues. Boost leaks cause the ECM to miscalculate air entering cylinders. A smoke test diagnoses leaks. Repair costs range from $80 to $450.
4. EVAP Purge Valve (Both Engines)
A stuck-open purge valve feeds unmetered fuel vapor into the intake. GM has documented this issue across its vehicle lineup. The valve costs $30–$65 with $80–$150 in labor — an affordable fix that should be ruled out early.
Diagnostic Approach
- Identify engine option — 2.0T vs 3.6L — and adjust approach accordingly
- Scan for all codes including pending and EVAP-related codes
- Monitor fuel trim data on both banks
- Clean the MAF sensor as a quick first diagnostic step
- For 2.0T: perform boost leak testing
- Check O2 sensor waveform and response time on bank 2
Driving and Ownership
The XT6 is a family-oriented luxury crossover. Normal daily driving is fine with P0175 active, but avoid the XT6's towing capacity (4,000 lbs) until resolved. Cadillac catalytic converters cost $900–$2,000 each. The 2022 model should still be within the 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranty — verify with your dealer.
Cost Reality
Cadillac dealer labor runs $150–$205/hour. The XT6 shares both engines with other GM vehicles (Equinox/Terrain for the 2.0T, Traverse/Acadia for the 3.6L), making aftermarket parts competitively priced. An independent GM specialist can save 25–35% versus the dealer for out-of-warranty repairs.
