Honda calibrated this transmission for efficiency, which means it shifts quickly and decisively. Some drivers perceive this as jerking compared to older transmissions that shifted more gradually. This decisiveness is partly intentional.
Normal Adaptation Period
The transmission's adaptive learning system learns driving patterns over time. A new vehicle or one that was recently serviced may shift differently until it adapts. Driving styles that vary significantly (one driver gentle, another aggressive) can cause the transmission to constantly readapt.
Giving the transmission time to learn—typically several hundred miles of consistent driving—often improves shift quality without any intervention.

Software and Fluid Solutions
Honda has released software updates improving shift quality in the 10-speed. Check with your dealer whether updates apply to your vehicle. Reprogramming takes about an hour and is sometimes covered under service campaigns.
Transmission fluid condition affects shift quality. Honda ATF-DW1 is specified, and degraded or incorrect fluid causes harsh shifts. A drain and fill with genuine Honda fluid can improve shift feel, though Honda considers this fluid "lifetime."
