When your 2019 Genesis G80 produces a thudding noise from the rear, suspension components, drivetrain elements, or even loose items in the trunk area may be responsible. Rear-specific noises have different implications than front-end sounds and require targeted diagnosis.
Rear Suspension Components
The G80's multi-link rear suspension has multiple arms, bushings, and mounting points. Worn bushings allow thudding as components move beyond designed clearances. Sway bar end links and bushings are common rear thud sources, creating sounds over bumps or during body roll.
Rear Shock Absorbers
Failed rear shocks can create thudding as the suspension bottoms out or rebounds excessively. The G80 may have adaptive dampers that can fail, creating different symptoms than standard shocks. Topping-out or bottoming sounds indicate shock issues.
Rear Differential
The rear differential (on RWD or AWD models) can create thudding from worn internal components, low fluid, or mounting issues. Differential thud may correlate with acceleration, deceleration, or turning rather than road bumps.
Driveshaft and U-Joints
